À la fois drame fantastique, mélopée entêtante, réflexion visuelle sur l’au-delà et film d’amour singulier où l’on parle autant de cœur que d’art, Le pays des âmes compte encore sur la présence juste d’Ève Duranceau, de Luc Proulx et de Philippe Battikha.

It seems like such a simple thing, but like everything else it comes at a price. With a jazz score that’s organically linked to the story rather than purely ornamental – hence the jazz fable part of the title – Olivier Godin’s film is an original and remarkable first feature. At once a fantasy-drama and an engrossing narrative, a visual reflection on the hereafter and a unique love story dealing as much with art as matters of the heart, Le pays des âmes reaps the benefits of fine performances by Ève Duranceau, Luc Proulx and Philippe Battikha.
